Panama's Independence

Andrew and I got a new project today about the Independence of Panama. For today, I researched dates and any information about Panama that I could find out.

Information on Independence: Panama didn't right away try to seperate from Spain because they were lacking communication from the other Spanish countries, so I guess they didn't get the memo. Panama had a great advantage compared to all of the other countries; the Panama Canal. Because of the canal, they had great strategies for using this advantage. They were doing great in the 16th century because the Spanish brought weapons and diseases, and were conquering other countries aroung Panama, while Panama thrived. By that time, there was many gold to be found near the ports, bringing pirates, so by the 17th century, Panama's importance declined. Panama won it's independence from the Spanish on November 28, 1821, but became part of Colombia.
